During the public works meeting, the commissioners decided to table action on the purchase of a new trash truck until next year's budget. "We were figuring on lease- purchase, making 10 payments, so we've got a couple months. We're in no big hurry. Actually, our trash truck made it a whole month without breaking down," he said. Streets (Cont. from pg. 1) repaired. Roane's third portion of the plan includes contracting to have those damaged streets fixed using bond proceeds. if the city's REAP grant comes through, the fourth portion of the proposed street improvements will receive funding to complete a 2-inch overlay project. He also noted that, with school out, vandalism and curfew violations are on the rise. "We have made quite an effort to enforce our current ordinances and have had some success in curbing this problem. We have increased evening and night patrols both in marked and unmarked vehicles, adjusted officer schedules to have a more visible presence during prime time and are rigorously enforcing the curfew. "The last court date had 14 youthful offenders of curfew ordinances and have since cited three for vandalism. We will continue to address this issue as a main priority," the report states. Another summer time issue - high weeds, trash and junk vehicles - resulted in an additional 80 staff hours for enforcement. g .... , ,1 completing the first phase of a three-phase plan updating their Nowata facility. One key ingredient in the REAP grant application is economic development, and this street clearly qualifies as an economic development project," Roane's handout states. With the funding request submitted to the Cherokee Nation, estimates are now being gathered for the overlay project, Roane is to meet with county commissioner Tim Kilpatrick to discuss the county's participation and a REAP grant application, not due until early August, has been completed, getting each portion of the proposed street plan under way. Roane also reported that other streets in the city will need to be patched during the 2009-10 budget year, and that street conditions "are, and will continue to be a main priority, and we will look for every opportunity to fund needed repairs."
